Are our paleoclimate predictions getting right? Can we look at the foundation again?

How right are paleoclimatologist in predicting the past climate? Are their assumtions always right or rather, at all right most of the time?

A keen person on paleoclimate myself yet I definitely beg to differ with many of their assumtions that gives us to our today's inferences. If we can go back and check our baseline on climate and the different assumptions/supposition once again I think we will definitely have a different prespective on today's climate. May be a clearer picture of the past is necessary to understand our present unpredictable climate.
